STANDARDS ORGANISATION OF NIGERIA ACT
Section 4: Functions of the Council, etc.
(1) The functions of the Council shall be-
(a) to advise the Federal Government generally on the national policy on standards, standards specifications, quality control and metrology;
(b) to designate, establish and approve standards in respect of metrology, materials, commodities, structures and processes for the certification of products in commerce and industry throughout Nigeria;
(c) to provide the necessary measures for quality control of raw materials and products in conformity with the standard specification;
(d) to determine the overall policy of the Organisation, in particular with regard to the financial, operational, and administrative programmes of the Organisation and to ensure the implementation of the said policy; and
(e) to carry out other functions imposed on it under this Act or any other written law.
(2) Subject to this Act, the Minister may give the Council directions of a general character or relating generally to particular matters (but not to any individual or case) with regard to the exercise by the Council of its functions, and it shall be the duty of the Council to comply with the directions.
