Section 6: Need to show colours

2007Section 6 of 445Federal Republic of Nigeria

(1) A Nigerian ship shall hoist the national colour-
(a)
on a signal being made to the ship by any ship which forms part of the naval forces of Nigeria, or which is commanded by an officer of any such forces on full pay; and
(b)
if the ship is of fifty tons gross tonnage or upwards, on entering or leaving any port in a foreign country.
(2)
Where a ship fails to hoist its flag as provided under this section, the master of the ship commits an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine not less than one hundred thousand Naira.
