Section 151: Right to recover wages and salvage not to be forfeited
(1)
A seaman belonging to a Nigerian ship shall not by any agreement:
(a)
forfeit his lien on the ship;
(b)
be deprived of any remedy for the recovery of his wages, to which, in the absence of the agreement, he would be entitled;
(c)
abandon his right to wages in case of the loss of the ship; or
(d)
abandon any right that he has or obtains in the nature of salvage.
(2)
Every stipulation in any agreement which is inconsistent with any provision of this Act shall be void.
(3)
Nothing in this section shall apply to a stipulation made by a seaman who belongs to any Nigerian ship which, according to the terms of the agreement is to be employed on salvage service with respect to the remuneration to be paid to him for salvage services to be rendered by that ship to any other ship.
