Section 125: Master to deliver account of wages

(1)
The master of every ship shall, before paying off or discharging a seaman in Nigeria, deliver at the time and in the manner provided by this Act a full and true account, in the prescribed form, of the seaman's wages and of all deductions to be made from the seaman's wages on any account whatever.
(2)
The account to be delivered by the master of a ship under subsection (1) of this section, shall be delivered:
(a)
where the seaman is not to be discharged before the superintendent, to the seaman himself not less than twenty-four hours before the seaman is discharged or paid off; and
(b)
where the seaman is to be discharged before the superintendent, to the seaman himself at or before the time of the seaman leaving the ship but not less than twenty-four hours before the discharge or payoff.
(3)
A master of a ship who fails, without reasonable cause, to comply with the provisions of this section commits an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine not less than one hundred thousand Naira.
