Section 124: Payment of wages before superintendent

(1)
Where a seaman is discharged before the superintendent, the seaman shall receive his wages which shall be paid by the owner or master of the ship to the superintendent through or in the presence of the superintendent unless otherwise directed by a court of competent jurisdiction.
(2)
The owner or master of a ship who pays the wages of a seaman within Nigeria in any other manner than as provided under subsection (1) of this section, commits an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine not less than one hundred thousand Naira.
