Section 203: Entries required in official log book

The master of a Nigerian ship shall enter or cause to be entered in the official log book:
(a)
any conviction by a legal tribunal of a member of his crew, and the penalty imposed;
(b)
every offence committed by a member of his crew for which prosecution is intended or to enforce a forfeiture or to exact a fine, together with the statement concerning the copy or reading over of that entry and the reply, if any, made to the charge, as required by this Act;
(c)
every offence for which punishment is provided and imposed on board;
(d)
a statement of the conduct, character and qualifications of each of his crew, or a statement that the master declines to give an opinion of these particulars;
(e)
every case of illness or injury occurring to a member of the crew, and the nature of and the medical treatment adopted if any;
(f)
every marriage which takes place on board, with the names and ages of the parties;
(g)
the name of every seaman or cadet who ceases to be a member of the crew, otherwise than by death, with the place, time, manner and reason for his ceasing to be a member;
(h)
the wages due to any seaman or cadet who dies during the voyage, and the gross amount of all deductions to be made from the wages;
(i)
every collision with any other ship, and the circumstances under which the collision occurred;
(j)
every accident sustained or caused by the ship which has occasioned any loss of life or any serious injury to any person or any material damage to the ship affecting the seaworthiness of the ship or the efficiency in its hull, equipment or machinery including every grounding of the ship; and
(k)
any other matter directed by this Act to be entered in the log book.
