Section 198: Penalty for false statement as to last ship or name

(1)
A seaman who, on or before being engaged, wilfully and fraudulently makes a false statement of the name of his last ship, or alleged last ship, or wilfully and fraudulently makes a false statement of his own name, commits an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine not less than twenty thousand Naira.
(2)
Where a seaman is liable to payment of the fine under subsection (1) of this section, the fine may be deducted from any wages which the seaman may earn by virtue of his engagement and the fine shall be paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund.
