HIV AND AIDS (ANTI-DISCRIMINATION) ACT

Section 1: Objectives

The purpose of the Act is to protect the rights and dignity of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS by-
(a)
eliminating all forms of discrimination based on HIV status ;
(b)
creating a supportive environment so that people livingwith HIV and AIDS are able to continue working under normal conditions for as long as they are medically fit to do so;
(c)
promoting appropriate and effective ways of managing HIV in the workplace, community, institutions and other fields of human endeavour;
(d)
creating a safe and enabling working and learning environment for all persons;
(e)
creating a balance between the rights and responsibilities of all persons in the society; and
(f)
giving effect to human rights guaranteed in chapter 4 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, and obligations under international and regional human rights and other instruments.
