Section 1: Establishment of the University of Maritime Studies,Oron

(1) There is established the University of Maritime Studies, Oron, Akwa Ibom State (in this Act referred to as "the University").
(2) The University shall be a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal and may sue and be sued in its corporate name.
(3) The University may acquire, hold and dispose of movable and immovable property for the purpose of its functions.

The University shall be supervised by the Ministry responsible for education and Ministry responsible for transport in view of the specialised and technical nature of the courses offered by University which requires approval and regulation by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
