Section 1: Establishment of the Council and merger with certain bodies.

(1) There is hereby established a body to be known as the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (in this Act referred to as "the Council") which shall have the functions assigned to it by this Act.
(2) The Council shall be a body corporate with perpetual succession and a common seal and may sue or be sued in its corporate name.
(3) The bodies or institutions known as-
(a) the Nigerian Educational Research Council;
(b) the Comparative Education Study and Adaptation Centre;
(c) the Nigerian Book Development Council; and
(d)
the Nigerian Language Centre,
shall, as from the commencement of this Act, be merged with the Council established by subsection (1) of this section.
