Section 3: Membership of the Council

(1) The Council shall consist of the following members-
(a) a chairman who shall be appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Minister;
(b) three persons to be appointed by the President on account of their performance, experience in and specialised knowledge of sports matters;
(c) representatives of the following establishments, that is-
(i) one from the armed forces;
(ii) one each from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Prisons Service and the Nigerian Immigration Service;
(iii) one from the National Universities Commission;
(iv) one from the National Board for Technical Education;
(v) one from the National Commission for Colleges of Education;
(vi) the Director of the National lnstitute for Sports; and
(vii) the Registrar of the Institute who shall serve as Secretary to the Council.
(2) Subject to subsection (3) of this section, a person appointed as a member of the Council (not being an ex-officio member), shall hold office for a period of three years and shall be eligible for re-appointment for only one further period of three years.
(3) The President may terminate the appointment of a member of the Council if he is satisfied that it is no longer in the interest of the Institute that the person concerned should continue in office.
(4) The supplementary provisions contained in the Schedule to this Act shall have effect with respect to the proceedings of the Council and the other matters therein mentioned.
