Section 406: General power of ordering imprisonment in default of payment of penalty
Where any court or tribunal is empowered by any provision of this Act to impose a penalty for a summary conviction offence, the court or tribunal may, in the absence of any express provision to the contrary in the same or any other written law, order a defendant who is convicted of the offence, in default of payment of the sum of
money adjudged to be paid by the order, immediately or at the time specified in the order, as the case may be, to be imprisoned.
