Section 31: Use of improper certificate

The owner or master of a ship who uses or attempts to use for the navigation of the ship, a certificate of registration not legally granted in respect of the ship whether or not the ship is a Nigerian ship commits an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine not less than three hundred thousand Naira or to imprisonment for a
term not exceeding two years or both, and, in addition, the ship shall be liable to forfeiture.
