Section 186: Certain ships to carry medical practitioner
(1)
The owner or master of any sea-going ship which proceeds from Nigeria, having fifty persons or upwards on board, shall carry on board as part of the complement of the ship a duly qualified medical practitioner.
(2)
Where a ship to which this section applies proceeds for a voyage from Nigeria without a duly qualified medical practitioner, the owner shall, for every voyage of the ship made without a duly qualified medical practitioner, be deemed to have committed an offence under this section and on conviction is liable to a fine not less than two hundred thousand Naira.
(3)
For the purposes of subsection (1) of this section, "duly qualified medical practitioner" means a medical practitioner who is authorised by law to practise as a legally qualified medical practitioner in the country to which the ship belongs.
