Section 60: General penalties. proceedings. etc.

2015Section 60 of 117Federal Republic of Nigeria

(1) A person commits an offence under this Act, where no specific penalty is provided, shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of one year or a fine one hundred thousand Naina or both and the court may if it thinks fit, recommend the deportation of the offender.
(2) An agent, who is not a body corporate and who commits an offence under this Act, shall where no specific penalty is provided be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term often years or a fine of two miilion Naira or both.
(3) For the purpose of the trial of a person for any offence under this Act, the offence shall be deemed to have been committed either at the place at which it was committed, or at any place at which the offender may be.
(4) An immigration officer may arrest without warrant on) person who he has reasonable grounds to believe has committed an offence under this Act.
(5)
A power exercisable under this Act in the case of any person may be exercised notwithstanding that proceedings for an offence under this Act have been taken against him.
