Section 223: Questions lawful in cross-examination.
When a witness is cross-examined, he may, in addition to the question referred to in preceding sections of this Part, be asked any question which tend to-
a test his accuracy, veracity or credibility; or
b discover who he is and what is his position in life; or
c shake his credit, by injuring his character;
Provided that a person charged with a criminal offence and being a witness may be cross-examined to the effect, and under the circumstances, described in paragraph (c) of the provision to section 180 of this Act.
