Section 54: Appropriation of portion of pay, etc., to creditors (As amemended by Section 6 of Bankruptcy (Amendment) Act 1992.)
(1) Subject to the provisions of any enactment, a bankrupt is an officer of the Nigerian Army, Navy or Air Force, or a public officer in the public service of the Federation or of a State, or where a bankrupt is in receipt of any pay or pension from the Government or is entitled to any allowance or compensation granted by the Government, the trustee shall receive for distribution among the creditors so much of the bankrupt's pay, salary, pension, allowance or compensation as the court, with the consent of the relevant Armed Foreces or, as the case may be, the Minister, Commissioner or Department Accounting Officer on the application of the trustee, may direct.

(2) Where a bankrupt is in receipt of a salary or income other than as aforesaid, the Court, on the application of the trustee, may from time to time make such order as it thinks just for the payment of the salary or income or of any part thereof to the trustee, to be applied by him in such manner as the Court may direct.
(3) Nothing in this section shall take away or abridge any power to dismiss a bankrupt or pursuant to any enactment to declare the pay, pension, allowance, compensation, salary or income of any bankrupt to be forfeited.
